SKA Polypropylene slats are made from high quality material and designed for additional strength which enables the steel support bars to be spaced 900mm apart, when the large majority of the alternatives need a support every 600mm of the length of the building.
There is a choice of two surfaces, the 'Aries' which has longer slots with wider sections between them for birds to use as perches which have a 'pimpled' finish for improved grip, and the 'Orion' with 22mm wide square openings over the whole area, with 8mm wide lattice work between them.
Both are the same 900x600mm overall size. Aries slats weigh 3.0 Kilograms, and Orion slats with more open area, each weigh 2.7 Kilograms. Both interlock with the adjacent slats along the short sides, where they are a 'push fit' onto the support structure, which can be dismantled and rebuilt without using tools.
Orion slats are often used in commercial laying units which are fitted with aerial perches, in rearing houses with slats and in breeder laying sheds which have 50% or more of the floor area slatted.
Aries slats are more regularly used in commercial laying houses without aerial perches, and in breeders laying houses with less than 30% slatted floors.
